Alexander Schay is a Managing Director at Ultima Thule (UT), a developing market equity research company and an equity partner at WK Associates, a boutique energy consulting firm with a specialization in emerging market oil and gas.
Alex focuses on investable ideas in developing markets and is responsible for all emerging and frontier investment analytics as well as overall investment strategy, including bottom-up security analysis, country risk and macroeconomic modeling. Additional sector-specific research specialization includes energy, industrials, materials, telecom and utilities.
Prior to Ultima Thule and WK, Alex worked at Credit Suisse with the Global Financial Strategies Group where he helped create proprietary models to systematically quantify investor expectations and identify key drivers of stock prices. Alex has also contributed to columns featured in Smart Money and Entrepreneur and conducted numerous radio and television interviews, including CNBC and Bloomberg news.
Alex holds both an MS in Risk Management and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a BA in Government from the College of William & Mary.
Caglar Somek has fifteen years of investment experience in developing markets and most recently served as Chief Investment Officer of Caravel Funds, a New York based Emerging and Frontier markets investor.
Prior to joining Caravel, Caglar was a Vice President, Senior Investment Analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management International focusing on the Asia Pacific ex-Japan region with broad research responsibilities including the basic materials, energy and financial sectors.
Prior to that, Caglar worked at Salomon Brothers Asset Management as a Vice President, Investment Analyst covering commodities and capital goods sectors and supporting all cap growth and value funds.
Caglar also spent five years as a Global Basic Materials Analyst and Valuations specialist at Credit Suisse First Boston. Caglar was raised in Turkey and speaks Turkish and French fluently. Mr. Somek is a member of the American Turkish Society’s Young Society Leadership (YSL) Program and regularly contributes to Forbes, Fox Business and Bloomberg news on global emerging markets.
He is a CFA Charterholder, has an M.A. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University and a B.S. in Economics, Banking, Finance and Insurance from University of Paris IX Dauphine.
